The history of the name „Cocktail”

The mostly spread and possible version of the history concerning the development of the name comes from South America. The first immigrants enjoyed a certain pleasure: The cock fight. As soon as it was clear which cock lost the fight, he got pulled out his tail feathers (if still there) and they were given as a trophy to the winner. This victory and as well the won trophy were celebrated afterwards. They were drinking "On the cock's tail". Therefore they named the drink, which was offered on these occasions simply „Cocktail”. At the same time the colourful cock tail symbolizes the endless varieties of mixed drinks, which we are able to enjoy today . . .
